Outdoor Courtyard @ Annex Building, FSM Gurgaon
The outdoor courtyard was designed as an extension of the annex canteen, serving as a spill-out seating zone that encourages longer, informal use. The overall idea was to revive an ageing, underused structure into a lively social food space that integrates seamlessly into daily campus life while remaining timeless and low-maintenance.
Design Intent
The canteen was planned as a high-capacity dining space serving four cuisines. The existing structure had strong natural light but felt underused and deteriorating. The intent was to activate the space and introduce café-style outdoor seating without altering the existing façade. The goal was to create a bright, efficient food spill-out zone with minimal permanent intervention to the building shell.
Key Highlight
Café-style outdoor seating layout planning
Pebble bed flooring with stepping stone pathway
Lightweight overhead metal framework with translucent roofing
Warm festoon lighting to enhance evening usability
Outdoor furniture selection and placement
Potted landscape elements for softening the built edges
Circulation clarity while maintaining seating density
OUTCOME
Outdoor courtyard designed as a spill-out dining zone to activate an underused transitional space.
